Differences between Limit Switches and Torque Switches

I. Differences in Working Principles
A limit switch is a device that controls the switching of a circuit when an object reaches or exceeds a certain critical position. It determines whether to trigger the switch by measuring changes in the object's displacement or position, thereby controlling the circuit. This type of switch is typically based on changes in the object's displacement or position. When the object reaches or exceeds a predetermined position, the contact will make contact with or separate from the contact seat, resulting in a change in the circuit's switching state. This working principle allows for monitoring and feedback control of mechanical devices, ensuring their operation within a set range.
In contrast, limit switches primarily use electrical signals to sense parameters such as the end position, angle, or torque of machine movement to control the opening and closing of the circuit. It is a commonly used low-current control device that converts mechanical displacement signals into electrical signals, thereby enabling real-time monitoring and control of the operating status of industrial equipment.
II. Differences in Functional Characteristics
The main function of a limit switch is to monitor whether equipment has reached its limit position and, if necessary, cut off the power supply or issue an alarm signal to prevent continued operation from causing damage or safety accidents. It plays a crucial role in safety protection and is an indispensable safety component for many mechanical devices. For example, limit switches are used on plate rolling machines to detect the load on bearings during operation, automatically stopping the machine when the load exceeds a certain range.

Limit switches, on the other hand, focus more on controlling the position, direction, and speed of movement, and detecting the normal operating status of mechanical components. They are commonly used in automated production lines and machine tools to ensure that each process is carried out according to a predetermined time and sequence, improving production efficiency and accuracy. For example, limit switches are used on industrial equipment production lines to control the position, speed, and direction of robotic arms to prevent damage to mechanical components or injury to personnel.
