Aluminum Sheet Deep Drawing Die; Stainless Steel Metal Stamping Part Forming Process

Recently, Dongmo (Hebei) Mould Co., Ltd. completed the heat treatment process upgrade for SKD11/CR12MOV die materials. By optimizing parameters of quenching, tempering and cryogenic treatment, the company increased die service life by 35%, securing stable production of stainless steel stamping and progressive drawing dies.

The upgrade focuses on two core steps:

Vacuum quenching replaces traditional salt bath quenching: A vacuum quenching furnace is applied, with heating rate controlled at 5ºC/min. It prevents die surface oxidation and decarburization, and improves material hardness uniformity to HRC 60-62.

Added cryogenic treatment: -196ºC cryogenic treatment is conducted immediately after quenching. It eliminates residual austenite, stabilizes die dimensional accuracy and reduces deformation risks during use.

Test data shows that the upgraded process works well for high-wear scenarios like stainless steel stamping and progressive drawing dies. For the same SKD11 drawing die, service life increased from 200,000 to 270,000 stamping cycles, cutting customers' die replacement costs and downtime by 30%.
Currently, the upgraded process is fully applied to all SKD11/CR12MOV dies. Custom heat treatment parameters are available for high-precision dies in medical and electronic industries.
